The Colours
of Africa
As part of the town's Moving On Community Fringe in 2009, Dorchester Stitchers created a colourful wall hanging during the course of two all-day free workshops in Borough Gardens House. Dozen of people of all ages have dropped in over the two days to sew or embroider their bit towards a wonderful piece of collaborative work on display during the 2010 Festival - and later at Dorchester ARTS.
Rosemary Gameson who designed the panels and co-ordinated the project said it was inspired by the African theme originally planned for Dorchester Festival. "The full Festival didn't happen in 2009 because of funding, but with the support of the Arts Centre, we were able to go ahead anyway and were able to make the first contribution towards the wonderful African Themed festival in 2010!"
