The Fringe without the Festival - three great days
Without additional finance, Dorchester Arts was unable to stage Dorchester Festival in May 2009 but by the time the funding news came through, we were committed to help local organisations like the Thomas Hardy Society, Dorchester Community Play, Dorchester Stitchers, and others put on their own events as part of a Community Fringe, extending and adding to the Festival. The result: Moving On a fringe without the Festival - a series of events supported by Dorchester Town Council, celebrating local talent.

Artist Tess Dickson from Bridport tlc ran a series of workshops in schools and with groups of people at the Arts Centre and artist Pete Sheridan worked with a group of young people from Dorset V to pain a stunning new mural.

The workshops led to Get you Skates on - a fantastic parade on wheels from the newly completed skatepark. The video clip below includes scenes from the a mummers play for Whitsuntide, performed by members of the Community Play.

Thanks to everybody for making the town's Community Fringe event Moving On such an amazing success. Special thanks go to event co-ordinator Kathie Prince for making it all happen - and for organising a fantastic day of workshops and performance - Sing Bang Bop
