Friday 22 May • Folk / Roots / Acoustic • Julie Fowlis + Lou Brown

Dorchester Corn Exchange • Doors 7.30pm / Support performance starts 8pm • £14 in advance / £16 on door page21_5

“Enchanting, beguiling and as fascinating as songs by Kate Bush and Björk” - Mark Radcliffe
“Formidable and amazingly rhythmic" - KT Tunstall

The elfin figure they are describing is Julie Fowlis, a talented singer and instrumentalist from Scotland. She was the BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year in 2008 and in a few short years has taken the music scene by storm, gathering a small army of fans around the world.

In 2007 she appeared on Later...with Jools Holland and was a special guest on the critically acclaimed Transatlantic Sessions.
However, she is somewhat of an enigma as she sings in Scottish Gaelic, a language only understood by around 60,000 people - approximately 1% of the population of Scotland. She is an accomplished musician as well - playing Highland bagpipes, small pipes, whistles, oboe and cor anglais.

This is true Gaelic music. Come have a listen.

Support comes from Lou Brown, a Bournemouth based singer-songwriter currently making a growing impact on the national acoustic scene.

Maumbury Rings • Gates 6pm • Bar 7pm • Performance 8pm • £11 / £9 member / £5 child / £27 family of 4 / £23 member’s family of 4 page21_5

Tartuffe - He only wants what's best from you!
Cornwall's Miracle Theatre celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2009 with a new adaptation of Tartuffe, Molière's sharpest comedy.

This masterclass in hypocrisy, as fresh and provoking as when it was banned in 1664, is perfectly suited to Miracle's high energy outdoor performance style.

Orgon welcomes the righteous Tartuffe into his home, adopting him as a spiritual and life-style guide. However, Tartuffe has a cunning plan to manipulate Organ into giving him all his worldly possessions under the pretence of honouring religious demands. To prove that he is a devoted disciple, Orgon signs over everything he owns.

His family smells a rat and sets out on a crazy and hilarious journey to rescue their inheritance and expose Tartuffe for the hypocritical villain he is.

Miracle Theatre apply their love of satire, farce and physical theatre to this timeless classic, laying bare aspects of human nature uncomfortably familiar to us all.
